Nurturing Support Centre: An Asset in any School

Some students require more support than what the classroom teacher alone can provide. A Nurturing Support Centre (NSC) is not a segregated class but rather an in-school resource that provides an environment and an intervention plan to meet student needs so they can continue to attend regular classes. Shortened class time, options for coping when there are challenging circumstances, organizational support and adult guidance are all part of what the adults in NSC offer to the students. Its use is guided and supervised by a NSC in-school support team. This session will present an overview of the Nurturing Support Centre concept and photos of well-established NSC’s.

Play provides us a safe space to access our feelings and in doing so, it serves a significant role in the unfolding of human potential. Discover the extraordinary power of play and how it can provide essential outbreaths and build resilience for students of all ages.

This session will describe the process we use and resources that we make available so that the student will feel welcome and safe in their new school.
